Both the function and design of the r2p video system are tailored to the high requirements of the rail sector. The combination of analogue and digital cameras increases flexibility and reduces costs. It is even possible to couple multiple carriages one after the other thanks to the innovative encoder, as it converts analogue image signals to digital image signals and transmits them to the central recorder via the train’s internal network. Only one device is required, where previously a separate recorder was needed per carriage. The number of cameras can also be reduced due to the high-resolution digital technology.

Assistance for the driver

In most circumstances, the driver bears sole responsibility for ensuring passenger safety when entering and leaving platforms and stops. State-of-the-art camera technology from r2p offers excellent added value in this area: thanks to this technology, the driver is given a quick and direct overview of the boarding and disembarking area. Even before the train starts moving, the driver will be able to verify that no passengers are located in the door area. The DOO system therefore enables one-man control of the vehicles and increases the efficiency of route planning through the recording.

Vigilant travel companion

The Forward-Facing camera is installed on the front of the vehicle. Its recordings provide information on what has happened in the field of view of the driver. Thermal cameras can be integrated as an additional option, helping to identify dangers even in complete darkness. Whether it’s passing through red lights or determining the cause of near and actual accidents – Forward Facing provides clear evidence. It also detects any unauthorised presence on or crossing over the tracks, identifies stone throwers, train surfers, graffiti sprayers or obstructions. The pantograph camera serves the same function: day and night, the camera documents any faults or wear on overhead wires or current collectors, or whether any damage has occurred during travel.

    Pantograph Camera

    The housing of the Pantograph Kit is made of 1.5 mm thick stainless steel and provides high protection against external influences to the camera. The housing is designed especially for the observation of pantographs when passing them. Besides the protection of the housing against mechanical damage like scratches or impacts, the housing protects against possible flying sparks, spreading electrical voltage and high temperatures.

    Because the housing is designed for the observation of pantographs by installation on top of the vehicle, the housing has a premounted spoiler that routes the headwind and obliging particles above the housing. For best use of the spoiler and a sufficient camera picture the spoiler can be adjusted by the two screws on it.

    The dimensions of the housing are kept small so that the camera with pantograph kit is inconspicuous and requires only little space on the vehicles outside.
